Apollo’s Mask

Apollo’s Mask

I’ve been rehearsing nearly full time the past few weeks so some of the shop work is beginning to back up a little. On top of the flute repairs this week, I also have to adjust my mask. It turns out I’m doing a lot more movement then we all originally thought.

When Ellen Stewart first asked me to be in Aesclepius, she said that I would probably do a little mask work and be part of the chorus. Now that we are in the thick of it and her creative juices are flowing, I find myself in a very meaty, major roll playing Apollo, father of Aesclepius. I’m now on stage a lot of the time, which means my mask will need to fit better and allow more air to circulate.

I am happy to report that one of the musicians, Yukio Tsuji, will be playing some shakuhachi in the performance. He has been playing during rehearsals and the sound is very effective. I can’t seem to get away from the sound of the flute even if I wanted too!

If you see your flute on my workbench, it’ll will definitely be finished this week.

Stay tuned! Perry
