New Apprentice at YUNG Flutes Workshop
Here's my new apprentice. Jet is only four months old but I thought I'd make him useful since he's been packing on the weight lately. He's got learn to earn his keep sooner or latter. No free ride here...uh, that is if your not counting the Baby Bjorn carrier.

So far, he's demonstrating the minimal hand and eye coordination require for shakuhachi making.
Next week, he gets his first lesson on how to make a sound...on the flute that is. He's recently added some laughing and grunting sounds that are new to his reperatory of cries.
Namaste, Perry

Dear Perry, I am searching for lessons for the Xiao flute, could you please let me know if there are any websites which offer basic lessons. Can I use recorder lessons for the Xiao? The photo with you and your child is beautiful. Best regards, Leah.

Hi Leah,
You should be able to find Xiao lessons in New York City, Los Angeles or Sanfrancisco. These three cities have a large population of Chinese and have may have more than one Chinese music school. Just do a search on the net. There are actually several in NYC.
If you want to play traditional Chinese music written for the Xiao, then you will need to study with a good teacher. If you just want to learn how to play the instrument and make your own music, then a lesson with any flute teacher will get you started.
Best of luck,
Perry

I was wondering if there are any Xiao flute makers in Waterloo. GOOD FORTUNE.

What a lovely photograph! You must be SO proud of this handsome young shakuhachi master-to-be. I also hope that martial arts master Li is honored by your use of the name Jet!
May every blessing and joy come to you and your beautiful family.
PS - I am still enjoying the things I've obtained from you; your artistry, and the handiwork of your wife ( the flute bag) remain examples of excellence in craft. Domo!

PS - Yes, I know it is an older picture but have not seen many family pictures and had to comment!
