Match.com For Shakuhachi

Hi all, I finally finished the 1.5 I was working on for my friend Christopher. Some of you who followed this blog saw that I was making a top section to match the bottom so that it could be a complete shakuhachi. The bottom, made by Chikuho, was probably missing it's other half for most of it's life. While making the fit on the joint, I noticed it had not seen much action. The lacquer was pristine. I broke it in while doing the fitting on the new top section. I was surprised to see that the joint was made form PVC tubing.

The top was made from Chinese Madake and a little thinner in exterior diameter. I started with this piece as a test but ended up using it as the real thing.

It was interesting to see how they fit together, so to speak. The yin to his yang.

Chris plays Jin Nyodo Style KINKO shakuhachi.

Short flutes are difficult to play well in the top of the second octave. This one is no exception. However, I managed to make it play better than the two 1.5 gauge flutes I had.

If you know of a shakuhachi looking for it's better half, send'em my way. It's fun being a match maker.
Namaste, Perry
