Recondition Joint for TIghtness
Nakatsuki Joint work.
All modern two piece flutes may eventually need tightening at some point. The nakatsuki joint is the only moving part of a shakuhachi. In time, the lacquer may wear down or the the bamboo will change shape due to humidity change.
This was a unique repair for Joint tightening There were five sections! Each section had to have a coat of urushi. Some required several coats to slowly build up the walls. With curing time, it can take about 7-10 days to make a slightly loose joint snug. A very loose joint work can take up to 3-4 weeks due to the individual curing time of each coat of lacquer.
